Report: West Ham want to sign striker with just 11 career goals in January; £20m+ needed

West Ham are being linked with a move to sign Brazilian striker Matheus Nascimento L0 in the January transfer window.

According to a report from Fichajes, Botofogo striker Matheus Nascimento is firmly on the radar of West Ham this winter.

Hammers boss David Moyes clearly needs to sign a top-class centre-forward either in January or next summer, in order to replace Michail Antonio in the long-term.

Antonio, 33, has been a fine servant for West Ham but he’s well past his best now, and it’s time Moyes made a big upgrade in the centre-forward department.

Judging by the latest reports coming out of Spain, it seems like that’s exactly what the Hammers boss is planning to do…

West Ham want to sign striker with just 11 career goals in January

Botofogo hitman Nascimento is on the Hammers’ radar it seems.

However, I would be hugely surprised if West Ham signed the teenager in the January transfer window.

His goalscoring record actually isn’t all that impressive, with 11 goals in 81 games to his name for Botofogo (Transfermarkt).

Goal recently claimed that he could cost in excess of £20 million. I don’t know, but doesn’t that seem like a little excessive for someone who is entirely unproven at the very highest level?

We all know how much emphasis Moyes places on signing proven players.

I really think that West Ham should be trying to sign a proven striker in January – someone like Ivan Toney would be ideal.

I just can’t envisage a scenario whereby Moyes signs Nascimento this winter. The 19-year-old might be talented, but he’s definitely not the kind of player we need to pick up the baton from Antonio in my opinion.
