2023 NRL Signings Tracker: Isaako extends with Dolphins

Prolific winger Jamayne Isaako will be a Dolphins player until at least the end of the 2026 season after agreeing to terms on a new deal this week.

Isaako led the Telstra Premiership in both tries and points scored in 2023, becoming the first player since 1990 to do so, and was rewarded with selection in the Dally M Team of the Year.

Dolphins’ chief executive Terry Reader said the new contract was a fitting reward for the 26-year-old, who is set to return to the Test arena with the Kiwis in this month’s Pacific Championships.

“Jamayne could simply have not played any better in 2023,” Reader said.

The dedication and drive Jamayne has showed this year to be the best he can has turned him into an elite player in the competition.

Meanwhile the Roosters have released premiership winning centre Paul Momirovski from the final year of his contract to join Leeds Rhinos.

Momirovski made his NRL debut with the Roosters in 2018 and had stints with Wests Tigers in 2019, Melbourne Storm in 2020 and Penrith Panthers in 2021 before returning to the Bondi-based club in 2022.

He played 60 NRL matches for the four clubs and was a member of Penrith’s 2021 grand final winning team.

“Paul is not only a talented footballer but also a very good person, and we would like to thank him for his contribution to the Roosters, from his time in the lower grades through to the NRL,” Roosters CEO Joe Kelly said.

Parramatta have announced the signing of Sea Eagles forward Kelma Tuilagi on a two-year contract from the start of 2024.

Tuilagi joined Manly ahead of the 2023 season on a three-year contract after debut with Wests Tigers in 2021 but will switch to the blue and gold for the following two years after being granted an early release from his contract.

“At 24 we think his best football will be ahead of him and will provide a strong contribution to the squad next season,” said Eels general manager of football, Mark O’Neill.

Wests Tigers centre Starford To’a is set to remain with the club until at least the end of the 2026 season after adding an additional two years to his current deal.

To’a, who has been selected in the Tonga squad to tour England for an historic three Test series, has played 39 games in his two seasons at Wests Tigers after joining the club from the Knights in 2022.

“I’m really proud and excited to have been selected for Tonga and I’m looking forward to the trip to England,” said To’a. “After that I can’t wait to start a new chapter for our club under Benji.”

The Sharks have bolstered their squad ahead of the 2024 season after re-signing hooker Jayden Berrell and outside back Mawene Hiroti and extending the contract of local product Kade Dykes.

Dykes was set to push for selection in the Sharks NRL squad in 2023 before the 21-year-old suffered a season ending ACL injury in February but has inked a new deal which will see him stay at the club until the end of 2025.

Hiroti and Berrell have both signed one year extensions for 2024 after another standout year for the Newtown Jets in NSW Cup.

Bayley Sironen is the latest NRL player making the move to France, with the 26-year-old second-rower departing the Warriors for Catalans.

Sironen, who played for Wests Tigers and South Sydney before joining the Warriors in 2021, has signed a two-year deal with the Perpignan-based Super League club.

Catalans have also recruited former NSW Origin forward Tariq Sims and Māori All Stars representative Jayden Nikorima from Melbourne on two-year deals.

Melbourne have also announced George JenningsJordan Grant and Tom Eisenhuth have departed the club.

England prop Luke Thompson will return home from Canterbury after signing a four-year deal to join Wigan from next season. Thompson, who won two premierships with St Helens in 2014 and 2019, has made seven appearances for England, including featuring in last year’s World Cup.

The 28-year old international made 42 NRL appearances for the Bulldogs after making the move to Australia in 2020 in a stint that was limited by injury.

The Dolphins have signed Knights forward Oryn Keeley on a new three-year deal.

After making his debut with Newcastle last season, the 20-year-old has joined the club’s top 30 and inked a deal which will see him stay at the new franchise until the end of the 2026 season.

The Rabbitohs, meanwhile, have re-signed back-rower Michael Chee Kam and halfback Dean Hawkins until the end of 2024. Chee Kam played 16 games in 2023 to take his career tally to 116 NRL games while Hawkins made two appearances at five-eighth this season.
