West Ham’s refusal to pay anything close to what’s required for Peterborough United’s Ronnie Edwards makes the option to which they are linked in Germany perhaps even more significant.

They remain open to a move for Bayer Leverkusen’s Piero Hincapie and that brings technical director Tim Steidten back into the picture since this is his former club.

Hincapie has been on the Hammers radar along with Edwards for some time but it appears to be a deal that night be quite difficult to achieve.

However Posh director of football Barry Fry revealed to Claret and Hugh exclusively easrlier today that the Hammers had offered a cheapskate deal he had snubbed.

Shuld we move for Hincapie it looks certain  it will have to wait until the summer anyway with Leverkusen holding a chance of winning the Bundesliga.

He would be an ideal signing, however, as he can play at both central defence and left back – a position we have of course needed covering for some time.

He is contracted until 2027 and valued at around €35 million so there would bbe no chance of a January deal anyway given the Hammers claim to have no cash available.
