West Ham manager David Moyes ‘glad’ Harry Kane has finally quit Tottenham

Harry Kane’s £100million move from Tottenham to Bayern Munich is on the cusp of being sealed and West Ham United boss David Moyes is buzzing about it

David Moyes says he’s happy to see the back of Harry Kane with the Tottenham striker on the verge of completing a £100m move to Bayern Munich.

Kane is currently in Germany undergoing medical tests amid plans to unveil him as a new Bayern player before the Bundesliga club’s DFL-Supercup tie with RB Leipzig tomorrow.

When asked about the imminent transfer in a press conference ahead of West Ham’s opening day clash with Bournemouth, Moyes hinted he was “glad” he wouldn’t have to watch his team line up against Kane this season.

“I think Harry Kane has worked and whatever he’s done, he’s deserved [his move to Bayern],” he told reporters. “He’s captain of England [and] rightly so because of his goals.

“I’m a big admirer because of his goals, but in some ways I’m glad he’s gone,” a smirking Moyes added.

Despite Moyes’ relief, Kane hasn’t scored a goal against his West Ham side since October 2020, in a run that stretches back seven matches.

The England skipper’s move to Bayern brings an end to one of the longest-running transfers sagas of the summer. The 30-year-old, who has less than a year remaining on his Tottenham contract, has been keen to move on in search of silverware, but was nonetheless open to the idea of staying put.

Understandably scared of losing him for free next summer, Tottenham eventually accepted an £86m bid (which could rise to £100m with add-ons), having turned down three previous Bayern offers.
