The scary Cincinnati Bengals wide receivers could be on different clubs next season, as Higgins is poised to enter free agency while Chase is awaiting a hefty contract extension to stay in Cincinnati. However, many of the Bengals’ main contributors believe Higgins is essential to the team’s heart and soul, and they would be devastated if he were to go.
In a press conference on Monday, star quarterback Joe Burrow stated, “We all want Tee back” because “he’s what being a Bengal is all about.” Head coach Zac Taylor stated that “it’s hard to imagine life without Tee Higgins” in black and orange.
“He’s really the best wingman I’ve had,” Chase told Business Insider of their work with Bounty.
Higgins has stated unequivocally that he would rather return to Cincinnati than pursue other opportunities in spring. He told Business Insider that having a quarterback like Burrow, who “makes things easier for us,” is a major plus.
Of course, the 6-foot-4 Clemson product adores playing with Chase. The star-studded receiving tandem unavoidably divides the attention of opposing defenses, giving both wideouts a little more room to operate on any given snap than they would otherwise have.
“I never played with an impactful player like he is,” Higgins told Business Insider. “This is my first time.” Just witnessing what he does on the field is incredible, and sometimes it’s like, “Man.”
Chase has plenty of reasons to continue playing alongside Higgins. However, following the Bengals’ final game of the season, the three-time Pro Bowler declined to sign a lesser contract extension to allow the organization to pay Higgins as well.
Nonetheless, Higgins has no doubts about his wingman’s loyalty.
“He got my back just like I got his,” Higgins told Business Insider.
