Joe Mixon pushes back on talk of Bengals moving on from him

The Bengals can save about $6 million in salary cap space by cutting Joe Mixon, and given how highly running backs are valued in today’s NFL, this appears to be the sensible choice. However, Mixon does not appear to believe this will happen.
In response to a social media post claiming that the Bengals are poised to release him, Mixon pushed back.
“LMAO, y’all said that last year too,” Mixon said, adding that discussing his departure is clown behavior.

The Bengals are near the top of the NFL in terms of available salary cap space for 2024, and most of their top players have little to no guaranteed money this season, so they don’t have to cut Mixon, who was by far the team’s leading rusher last season with 1,034 yards in a year when no one else ran for 200 yards. But, with the sixth-highest cap cost among NFL running backs in 2024, he must be aware that his contract is something the Bengals will carefully consider as they create their team this offseason.
