Patriots Officially Announce Revamped Coaching Staff
The New England Patriots’ Bill Belichick era is finally ended, and the team is embarking on a new chapter of uncertainty and a fresh start.
Jerod Mayo, a linebacker who played for Belichick for eight seasons, is the Patriots’ next head coach, and he has big shoes to fill.
On Monday, Mayo announced four new coaching hires: Bob Bicknell, Vinny DePalma, Taylor Embree, and Dont’a Hightower.
After playing collegiate football at Boston collegiate, Bicknell became a coach at Boston University in 1993. After five years there, he spent several years coaching in NFL Europe, a now-defunct foreign league.
He began his NFL coaching career as an assistant offensive line coach for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2007, before becoming the Buffalo Bills’ tight ends coach in 2010
Bicknell went on to coach wide receivers with the Buffalo Bills, Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers, and Cincinnati Bengals.
DePalma, who attended Boston College with Bicknell, will serve as their defensive quality control coach.
Embree has been appointed as the New England Patriots’ running backs coach after formerly coaching the New York Jets’ running backs for three seasons.
Hightower was a linebacker in New England for nine seasons, making the Pro Bowl thrice and won three Super Bowl rings under Belichick.
