Jared Waerea-Hargreaves to Play His Final Season with the Roosters

The Sydney Roosters have today announced that 2024 will be vice-captain Jared Waerea-Hargreaves’ final year in the famous Tricolour jersey, and in the NRL.

The inspirational leader of the Sydney Roosters forward pack will contest his 15th season with the Club and his 16th in the NRL this year. Player number 1105, 292 of the 298 games Waerea-Hargreaves has played so far have been with the Roosters and he is currently the fourth most-capped player in the Club’s 116-year history.

35-year-old Waerea-Hargreaves made his NRL debut with the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles in 2009, making six appearances for the club that season. He joined the Roosters in 2010 and was a member of the Club’s grand final side that year.

To date, he has won three Premierships with the Roosters (2013, 2018, 2019) and played in four grand finals (2010, 2013, 2018, 2019).

Waerea-Hargreaves spoke about his love for the Sydney Roosters jersey and his commitment to the Club for the 2024 season.

“The Sydney Roosters have been my home, my family, and my passion for many years. I love the Club and everybody who’s a part of it and anyone who knows me knows what the Roosters jersey means to me. This hasn’t been an easy decision but after discussions with my family and Trent, I know it’s the right one,” said Waerea-Hargreaves.

“I’m proud to wear the Sydney Roosters jersey and I’m incredibly motivated to keep working hard to achieve the ultimate goal with my brothers this year.”

Sydney Roosters Head Coach, Trent Robinson, said: “Jared is the heart and spirit of our Club and he is family to the Roosters. It’s been an absolute pleasure to coach someone that plays the game the way he has for more than a decade.

“He has been a huge part of the Club’s success over the last 15 seasons and there’s no question he will go down in history as one of the best forwards to wear the Roosters jersey.

“Jared is clear and committed on the contribution he wants to make in his final season. We’re all very clear on our goal and look forward to sharing the season ahead with Jaz [Jared].”
