It’s gone from bad to worse for England international and West Ham star Kalvin Phillips
He now appears to be undercooked as a result of nearly two years of inactivity. Phillips may face significant financial consequences.
According to the Daily Mail, Phillips is unlikely to make Gareth Southgate’s next England squad next month.
Because of the 28-year-old’s terrible start at the London Stadium, Southgate is reportedly looking elsewhere for central midfielders, including Manchester United’s Kobbie Mainoo and Everton’s James Garner.
Phillips must be struggling with confidence following his start with West Ham, and the news that he will most certainly be left out of the England squad will only add to his misery in football.
The former Leeds player is a very good footballer when he is fit and in rhythm. Hopefully, he will take this two-week sabbatical to get amazingly fit.
Let’s hope we see the best of Kalvin Phillips between now and the end of the season; if so, he may still have a chance to make Gareth Southgate’s England selection for the Euros.
