With the sun beaming outside, the quarterbacks demonstrated their abilities inside the IPF, kicking off a competition for the starting quarterback position for the 2024 season. While many have delegated that responsibility to Senior Quarterback Cam Ward, the staff is letting the work on the field speak for itself. Albany transfer Reese Poffenbarger has not conceded the role to Ward and has performed well in offseason training. Jacurri Brown has made three starts for the Canes in the last two seasons. An similarly amazing offseason. All three quarterbacks performed admirably during the media portion of the first session. Emory Williams, who started two games last season, is slated to redshirt this year after sustaining a late-season injury to his non-throwing arm against Florida State. True freshman Judd Anderson stood out as the largest quarterback on the field, although he is likely to redshirt this season.

For Cristobal and his coaching staff, the first day of spring practice is about setting the tone for the coming weeks. It’s time to develop discipline, attention, and a tireless work ethic in all players, from seasoned veterans to enthusiastic novices. As they collect the team for the first drills of the day, the message is clear: every rep, sprint, and play counts. Coach Cristobal frequently says, “How you do anything, is how you do everything.”
