West Ham United loanee Thilo Kehrer has admitted that he is yet to begin discussions over making his loan spell at Monaco permanent this summer.
The German international left the London Stadium in the January transfer window having fallen down the pecking order, joining the Ligue 1 side on loan with an option to make the switch permanent at the end of the season.
While Kehrer has impressed since arriving in Monaco, starting nine league games and registering a single assist, no decision has yet been made on his future although the 27-year-old has admitted he is open to a permanent move.
As quoted by Get French Football News (6 April) he said: “It is something that I am open to, otherwise, I wouldn’t have come here in this way, with the purchase option. We will see how it goes.
“There aren’t any discussions yet. It’s just the season that matters, the results and the team. The rest will come after.”
Will Thilo Kehrer return to West Ham United in the summer transfer window?
It became incredibly clear in the first half of the season that Moyes didn’t view Kehrer as a regular part of his first-team squad in East London, with German only featuring on rare occasions in Europe and off of the bench in the Premier League.
Vladimir Coufal’s impressive displays this term have made it incredibly difficult for any player to force their way into the Hammers’ backline on a consistent basis and Kehrer’s loan switch was the best move for all parties.
Therefore, it would likely be in West Ham’s interest to move the German international on permanently this summer to get his wages off of the books at the London Stadium. Hopefully, Monaco will be keen to activate their permanent option.
While it will be a shame that supporters never got to see the best of the 27-year-old in claret and blue, it feels almost certain that Kehrer will leave East London this summer.
