Cordarrelle Patterson, a former NFL return man, signed a two-year contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The club initiated discussions about modifying kickoff rules to encourage more kick returns, prompting Pittsburgh to bring Patterson aboard.

Pittsburgh Steelers have signed four-time First-Team All-Pro, Patterson, on a two-year $6MM deal, with the expectation of Patterson returning as a dominant return specialist.

Cameron Heyward, a franchise icon, may consider retirement after a groin injury in 2023. The Pittsburgh Steelers could release him to save cap room. After surgery, Heyward is expected to be fully cleared by training camp. He is expected to return for a 14th season, with a $22.41MM cap charge.

Heyward was a strong advocate for the Steelers’ Russell Wilson acquisition for the 2024 campaign, as both players have Walter Payton Man of the Year Award honors. Wilson’s agent called around the league to find teams interested in signing him, but no takers came, so Wilson signed with Pittsburgh.

Pittsburgh Steelers’ Patrick Peterson has had preliminary talks with several teams since his release, but does not expect a new deal before the upcoming draft. Interest in Peterson could increase once clubs understand their roster weaknesses post-draft. The Steelers considered other players before signing Wilson and trading for Justin Fields.
