Leeds United news as Tyler Adams admits to Whites regret after Bournemouth departure

A look at the latest Leeds United news this evening

A round-up of the latest Leeds United news this evening on Sunday, August 20.

Tyler Adams’ Leeds United regret after Bournemouth departure

Tyler Adams has thanked Leeds United, his teammates and supporters for the support he received during his short time at the club following his departure for Bournemouth. The United States international missed the Whites’ relegation run in last year and was unable to try and help keep them in the top flight.

Adams has spoken about his excitement to be back in the Premier League with the Cherries, but took to Instagram to share a message for Leeds United fans after his departure.

The outgoing midfielder said: “Not an easy goodbye. The club, my teammates and the fans have supported me since day one and I wish I could have given more in the home stretch. Forever grateful for this past year.”

Karl Darlow on having the experience to deal with Leeds United pressure and Newcastle comparisons

Leeds United shot stopper Karl Darlow says he has the experience to handle the pressure and expectancy to win at Elland Road. The former Newcastle United shot stopper swapped the black and white of the Toon for the Whites towards the end of pre-season and made his debut in the Carabao Cup against Shrewsbury.

It was Darlow’s first experience of playing in front of the Elland Road faithful as a home player and a moment he knew he’d made the right decision.

He told the Official Leeds United podcast: “I’ll be honest, I feel like there’s been interest from here for the last three or four seasons. It’s felt like from every window I could potentially come here.

“I’ve always kind of had it on the radar and had conversations with the agency that it’s one I’d like to do. It’s a massive club and like we said before, it’s similar to how Newcastle are fan wise, how passionate and intense the fans are about their club.”

Wilfried Gnonto’s approach is ‘not the right way’ to try and force Leeds United exit

Handing in a transfer request, and refusing to play for Leeds United, is “not the right way” Wilfried Gnonto should engineer his move away from the club, according to EFL pundit Jobi McAnuff.

The Italian forward has made his feelings over his future perfectly clear to the Yorkshire outfit, amid month-long interest from Premier League suitors Everton, and a host of reported bids, the latest reaching a reported fee of £25 million. Gnonto has now handed in a transfer request at United amid frustration at being denied departure from Elland Road.

Gnonto, who scored only twice in 24 appearances for United during their ill-fated relegation season last time out, made himself unavailable for the home cup win with Shrewsbury, away defeat to Birmingham and Friday evening’s stalemate with the Baggies.

And McAnuff, believes his behaviour is down to the fact Gnonto assumes, or has been advised that, handing in a transfer request is “the only way to force through a move” back to the Premier League, and his disagreed with the manner the former FC Zurich forward has conducted himself during the transfer saga.

Sky Sports pundit hits out as Leeds United miss out on vital penalty call in West Brom draw

Sky Sports commentator Andy Hinchcliffe insists Leeds United were robbed of a penalty during the second half of their Championship clash with West Brom on Friday evening, which could have made a world of difference to the outcome for United.

In the midst of a tightly-contested battle, Leeds went one goal down six minutes into the second half due to a deflected shot from Jayson Molumby. They were already aggrieved as the shot seemed to ricochet off the outstretched hand of Brandon Thomas-Assante but no foul was given and Leeds found themselves behind.

Sustained pressure ensued from United, as Dan James slipped a delightfully weighted reverse ball in behind the Baggies’ defence, which forward Joe Gelhardt latched on to and seemingly had his legs swiped from West Brom centre-half Cedric Kipre, who made no contact with the ball and sent the former Sunderland loanee in a heap to the floor.

The Sky Sports pundit said during the replays: “He (Kipre) seemed to read the danger but it looked as if he got there slightly late.

“(Kipre) doesn’t play the ball does he, Gelhardt gets the touch on that, Kipre seems to take him out. I think he is very fortunate to get away with that, in my eyes that is a penalty.”
