The Astros have re-signed reliever Miguel Díaz to a minor league deal, having elected free agency after being outrighted off Houston’s MLB roster. Díaz had previously made one appearance in an Astro uniform and was out of minor league options, making a DFA the only way to remove him from the big league team.

Díaz, a former Rule 5 pick, struggled initially with San Diego and Detroit between 2022-23. He struggled with 57 frames and a 5.05 earned run average, but his 28.6% strikeout percentage was better than the league mark. He aims to build on his work with Sugar Land and return to the majors soon. Houston may need more fresh arms.
