Milan van Ewijk, a Coventry City defender, shares his initial struggle to adjust to leaving Feyenoord earlier in his career.

The 23-year-old defender, who started his career in the youth sector, was released by the Dutch side in 2016. He joined Excelsior and moved to ADO Den Haag, but left in 2021 for SC Cambuur and later joined Heerenveen in a €650,000 deal.

The player joined Coventry in July 2023 for €4.3m and has been regular this season, making 44 appearances in all competitions. He admits to feeling disappointed at Feyenoord, stating that he moved from Amsterdam and played six years in their training before aiming to make it to Feyenoord 1.

The speaker experienced a setback in professional football, which has since become a strength and a source of joy, despite the loss of everything they had hoped for, especially after their family moved away.
