The Cowboys’ Quinn has been chosen over Bill Belichick as the commander for the team, despite concerns about potential capital gain or loss.

The Washington Commanders may regret hiring Bill Belichick as their head coach before choosing Dan Quinn.

The Washington Commanders have hired Dan Quinn as their new head coach, filling the NFL’s final head coaching vacancy and potentially sealing the 2024 fate of sidelines legend Bill Belichick, who is absent from the final finalists.

Washington, despite not being as closely linked to Belichick’s services as teams like the Atlanta Falcons, has reportedly conducted due diligence on the 71-year-old since his departure from the Patriots in January.

Bill Belichick was considered for the Washington Chiefs job, but was ultimately chosen by Dan Quinn. Belichick, a successful former head coach, has a record of six Super Bowl championships, three AP Coach of the Year awards, and nine conference titles.

Belichick’s tenure as Patriots coach has been a mere formality, but his success over the past two decades does not warrant a job for 2024. His image as a brilliant tactician has faded, replaced by a struggling coach.

Belichick’s employment status as Patriots coach and general manager is uncertain due to a 4-13 season, his worst in New England, and rumors of in-fighting and questionable decision-making. New England missed the playoffs for the third time in four seasons.

The Patriots finished last in the AFC East since 2000, losing to the Jets in Week 18, resulting in Belichick’s job, and hired former inside linebackers coach Jerod Mayo as the 15th head coach.

Belichick’s age, lack of success, and organizational control may have pushed Commanders towards Quinn, who received two Super Bowl victories with the Patriots, including as Seattle Seahawks’ defense coordinator and Falcons’ head coach.

The question remains whether Washington will regret not hiring Bill Belichick when they had the opportunity.
