On Saturday, the Atlanta Braves appeared to be on their way to a no-hitter—but then calamity struck. The disaster’s name was JD Martinez.

The Braves had a combined no-hitter with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning against the New York Mets at Citi Field in Queens, New York.

Martinez would have been the last out, allowing the Braves to record their first no-hitter in more than 30 years. However, the Mets slugger wrecked the joy by hitting Braves closer Raisel Iglesias deep on the first pitch he saw.

The Braves lost the no-hitter and shutout with a single swing.

Martinez effectively avoided being on the wrong end of Braves highlight clips for the foreseeable future. Martinez’s home run was his first as a Met in 14 games this season.

Perhaps the MLB on FOX account on X was to blame for the blown no-hitter. They violated the cardinal rule by acknowledging the no-hitter with a post following a spotless eighth inning.

Despite the loss of the no-hitter, starting pitcher Max Fried delivered an outstanding outing for the Braves. The 30-year-old southpaw no-hit the Mets for seven innings but was unable to complete the job due to his high pitch count.

Fried threw 109 pitches on Saturday, striking out five and walking three.
