Noah Shannon, a Hawkeye football player, has been suspended for the season following a sports gambling investigation

Iowa City, Iowa (KCRG) – The NCAA has suspended Iowa Hawkeyes defensive tackle Noah Shannon for the season for sports gambling, according to head coach Kirk Ferentz on Wednesday.

Shannon is suspected of betting on at least one Iowa sports game, though it was not an Iowa Hawkeyes football game.

Shannon is appealing his suspension, but he will be unable to play during the appeals process.

He is the first Hawkeye football player suspended by the NCAA as a result of the sports gambling investigation.

Noah Shannon was the first Hawkeye to disclose his involvement in the Iowa sports betting probe in July.

On Tuesday, the University of Iowa announced that 11 other athletes had been punished as a result of the NCAA probe.

Shannon is not one of the Hawkeye or Cyclone athletes currently or previously charged with sports betting. All of those indicted are suspected of exploiting someone else’s account to place sports bets.
