SIMON JORDAN STUNNED AFTER HEARING WHO TURNED DOWN TOTTENHAM JOB BEFORE ANGE POSTECOGLOU

Ange Postecoglou has made a brilliant start to life at Tottenham Hotspur.

Many fans would have wondered who he was when Spurs picked him from Celtic to replace Antonio Conte in the dugout.

What didn’t help the Treble-winner at Parkhead is that Harry Kane left days before the 2023/24 Premier League season had begun.

One of the reasons why Tottenham pushed for Postecoglou was because of his style of play. The speed in which his teams play and how he uses his full-backs as number 10’s.

That was a big debate amongst the fans when Daniel Levy went looking for a coach. Many were sick and tired of the defensive football they had witnessed for the past few years.

As a result of it, many names were touted and tipped for the job. All with an attacking philosophy on their CV.

Simon Jordan is close friends with Levy, so he has that extra bit of knowledge on the goings-on at Tottenham than others.

But the former Crystal Palace owner was taken aback when Joleon Lescott suggested that Vincent Kompany ‘turned down’ the Spurs job last summer, as he told Up Front.

At that time, the now Bayern Munich boss, had just got promoted to the Premier League with Burnley by steamrolling the Championship and playing an attacking brand of football.

On paper, you can understand why Spurs wanted him, perhaps spoke to him or had him on their shortlist.

But Jordan wasn’t having any of the suggestion that he turned down the opportunity to manage the London club when it was put forward to him.

Vincent Kompany turned down Tottenham Hotspur’s manager job

“Coaches now, not necessarily just Vinny (Kompany), are advertising their style for the opportunity (of a bigger job),” said Lescott amid talk of Kompany getting the Bayern job, despite his CV.  “Bear in mind, he did turn down Spurs the year before when he got promoted.”

Jordan responded: “You say that,” to which Lescott added confidently “I know that.” And Jordan then repeated: “You know that, do you? You know that Kompany got offered a job at Spurs? You do, do you?”

The former centre-back looked Jordan straight in the eyes with a smile on his face and added: “Yeah.”

There have been some high-profile jobs available recently, and if Manchester United boot out Erik ten Hag, then there could be another.

But the elite teams of Europe are now going down the road of bringing in that young and inexperienced coach, rather than one with a trophy-laden CV.
