ATLANTA (KFYR) – Fifty Native American high school baseball players got to show off their skills at the Native American All-Star showcase on the Atlanta Braves home field at Truist Park this past weekend. Mandan Braves baseball player Marcus Bird Horse represented the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe.
Since Bird Horse was little, he’s always loved the game of baseball, and he was excited to showcase his talent last weekend in Atlanta for the second year in a row.
“This year, I’ve put in work over the off-season, and I’m grateful to perform and show them my new skills,” said Bird Horse.
Bird Horse was excited to show that he could pitch and hit with the best of them.
“I’m a two-way. I wanna show them how my pitching and velocity has kind of increased and how my power at the plate has increased,” said Bird Horse.
Scott Davis is CEO of Mandan’s Tatanka Consulting Group focused on the betterment of Native nations and co-founder of the Native American Athletic Foundation. He has been at the forefront of organizing this event with the Atlanta Braves.
He understands the importance of this event and providing these athletes with exposure and professional advice that they otherwise wouldn’t receive living in rural areas.
“Atlanta is like the mecca of baseball right now, for everything. So, we convinced them that instead of your scouts going to the country, let’s bring them here. Let’s have them play in the stadium and bring the scouts here,” said Davis.
