Tottenham insider John Wenham has expressed his frustration at Genoa for delaying a straight-forward deal for Djed Spence.

The Tottenham right-back spent the latter half of the season on loan at the Italian side where he impressed with his performances.

Genoa are keen to sign him on a permanent transfer, and Spurs are also keen on offloading him. The loan deal included a buy-option worth £8.5m, but it appears that the Serie A club are trying to sign him on a discounted price.

Talks between the clubs have been going on for quite some time, which has left the club insider frustrated.

He claims that he sees the transfer eventually going through since the club likes Spence. But he showed his annoyance at Genoa for acting poor in order to drive a bargain.

He told Tottenham News:

“I do see Spence being sold to Genoa. However, I am frustrated by the delay.”

“They have an £8.5million buy-option for Spence which is incredibly cheap for someone with resell value, yet they’re trying to negotiate a lower fee.”

“It is baffling how these European clubs plead poverty but always seem to make huge sales every summer. We handed over more than £20million for Radu Dragusin to Genoa just last January.”

“However, I think Spence will eventually go because they seem to like him there.”

Spurs signed Spence in 2022 for £12.m, a signing which was said to be a club signing. Conte, who was the manager at that time, publicly claimed that he was a player that the club wanted to sign.

However, the move has not worked out for him, and the player is very likely to move on from the club this summer with a move to Genoa likely to go through.
