’SOMETHING MUST BE GOING ON’: SKY PUNDIT REACTS TO ‘TALENTED’ EVERTON STAR’S POSSIBLE EXIT
Darren Ambrose says ‘something must be going on’ with Demarai Gray amid suggestions that he could leave Everton this summer.
The 27-year-old is yet to feature under Sean Dyche this season, with Ambrose calling the winger a ‘talented football player’, as he told the Transfer Show on Sky Sports.
Everton lost their opening two Premier League matches, without scoring, with suggestions that Gray could now be heading to Saudi Arabia.
Given Everton’s situation, some would argue that the speedster should be given a chance because it’s not like the current crop are pulling up trees.
The defeat at Villa Park over the weekend was a pure disaster because everything that went wrong did go wrong, including Dominic Calvert-Lewin suffering a facial injury.
Either way, former Premier League midfielder Ambrose shared his thoughts on Gray’s future at Goodison Park.
“If you look at a player like Demarai Gray, he’s a talented football player,” said Ambrose. “He plays it fits and spurts, not always top-class.
“But when you look at how dire Everton have looked so far this season, for him not to be playing in that team shows that something must be going on.
“He is 27, and if he is going to Saudi Arabia, then his days are probably numbered in England.”
Gray transfer
The two reasons behind Gray’s possible exit could be that Everton want to bring money in, and then use that to sign Dyche-type players.
It’s not like Everton are free from FFP and they can spend however they wish.
Plus, the player himself might not suit what Dyche wants from a player, especially his high demands without the ball.
