‘Deal agreed’: Joel Piroe set for Leeds United medical
Leeds United look set to receive a significant boost to their attacking options for the rest of the Championship season, with reports indicating that long-term striker target Joel Piroe is set for a medical at the West Yorkshire club.
That is according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, who claims that a deal has been struck between Leeds and Piroe’s club Swansea, with the Dutchman now on his way to Elland Road to complete a medical.
Personal terms also appear to be no issue, with all parties involved expecting an agreement to be formally signed by the end of the week.
Signing Piroe would be a real statement of intent from the Whites owners 49ers Enterprises, with a centre-forward being a priority on their summer shopping list heading into the transfer window.
Following the departure of last season’s top scorer Rodrigo to Qatari outfit Al-Rayyan for a £3m fee earlier this summer, as well as injuries to Patrick Bamford and Mateo Joseph, Leeds have looked light up top in recent times.
Boasting a considerable goalscoring record of 46 goals in 96 appearances for the Swans since his arrival from PSV Eindhoven in 2021, Piroe very well looks like the answer to the Whites’ striker woes.
Recent contract negotiations between Piroe and Swansea have reportedly broken down leaving the Welsh side with two options: either keep the 24-year-old and see him leave for free next summer, or cash in now and secure a considerable transfer fee for his services.
Leeds supporters can expect an exciting end to the transfer period, given that there are 8 days remaining and a number of positions still need strengthening. But signing Piroe would most definitely be a good omen of things to come.
The Whites travel to table-topping Ipswich Town this Saturday, with Daniel Farke’s side still searching for their first league win of the season.
