NFL insider reveals what running back wants from the Saints
The New Orleans Saints have a star running back in Alvin Kamara. Even as he approaches thirty years old, he’s still an impressive talent that QB Derek Carr respects in a major way.
Kamara left the facility before the start of practice on the final day of Saints mandatory minicamp last week. It was a planned move as Kamara’s agent quickly announced that the departure was contract-related. Now, more details have emerged regarding his contract hopes.
Alvin Kamara open to a reworked 2-year deal with the Saints
Jeremy Fowler was the first to detail Kamara’s potential expectations.
Running backs are in an intriguing spot. They are not getting long-term contracts around the age of thirty years old unless your name is Christian McCaffrey. For Kamara, he’s in the last year of his contract with New Orleans right now. Next year is a void year on his deal.
Kamara’s request simply changes that aspect of his current deal. It would keep him playing in New Orleans for the upcoming season and next season.
He’s looking to gain a bit more long-term stability, albeit even one more actual season. It’s not an extension on top of the current contract for the veteran running back.
Plus, increased guaranteed money in year one can help him receive the most money before his play sees any sort of fall off. Kamara played good football in 2023, but the stagnant offensive scheme held him back.
With new OC Klint Kubiak in the building, Kamara is expected to play a pivotal role for the Saints offense. Say goodbye to the swing passes or constant check downs. Expect more pre-snap movement with the running back and even downfield throws to Kamara.
Regardless, now we know what the veteran RB is looking for from the Saints in order to return to the team sooner than later.
