Mark Robins is “excited” by the latest addition to his Coventry City squad but insists Brighton loan star Yasin Ayari might need a bedding in period before making the full impact he’s been brought in to provide.

Still only 19, the Sweden international is a technically gifted attack-minded midfielder who is hoped will add creativity and goals to the Sky Blues, competing with and complementing the likes of Kasey Palmer and Callum O’Hare when he returns to full fitness in the coming weeks.

But whether he’s ready to be involved straight away when City entertain Sunderland this weekend remains to be seen.

“He’s a good player who comes with a pedigree and has played a significant number of games for his age, for AIK, and then played three games for Brighton in the Premier League,” said Robins, who is almost certain to name him in his matchday squad to face Tony Mowbray’s Black Cats.

“He’s an exciting young player who fits the bill in terms of what we’re looking to do moving forwards, so I’m really pleased with the loan

Highly rated by his parent club, Robins is rightly happy that City have forged a reputation for developing young players which has clearly helped secure the services of such a talent.

“The way we play and try to do things and way other clubs have trusted us with their players is brilliant,” he said. “Very pleasing. This loan is another who will hopefully have the impact the others have had.

“He’s got a really high expectation of himself and of the loan, which is great in itself, and he just needs a bit of patience to get there and trust us, and just to knuckle down and work. That’s not just him specifically, that goes for everyone, to buy into everything that we’re doing and that generally stands them in good stead for the loan.”
