Everton in talks with Newcastle over Yankuba Minteh transfer

Minteh, 19, spent last season on loan at Arne Slot’s Feyenoord and is on the radar of several European and Premier League sides.

It would be a separate deal to Newcastle’s pursuit of Toffees striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin but both moves would help solve the two clubs’ PSR issues.

talkSPORT reported last month that Newcastle had rekindled their interest in long-term target Dominic Calvert-Lewin but talks are not yet at an advanced stage.

Minteh has been heavily linked with a departure from St. James’ Park this summer after a fine season in the Eredivisie.

Under incoming Liverpool boss Slot, the teenager scored 11 times in 37 appearances in the Dutchman’s attacking Feyenoord side.

It has led to interest from around Europe with clubs such as Roma, Marseille, Borussia Dortmund and even Liverpool to reunite with Slot.

Newcastle only signed the winger in June 2023 before immediately loaning him to Feyenoord.

The Gambia international was signed for around £6million but could now leave and earn the Geordies a profit.

That is despite never kicking a ball under Eddie Howe but he could now become the second signing at Everton.

The Toffees confirmed their first arrival this summer after bringing in Tim Iroegbunam from Aston Villa for £9million.

Going the other way, Everton academy ace Lewis Dobbin looks set to make the move to Villa Park.

A similar scenario appears to be playing out in this deal with Newcastle strongly linked with Calvert-Lewin.

The Magpies had been interested in the striker earlier this season and look set to rekindle their attempts to bring in the 27-year-old.

Howe currently has Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson as his main strikers at Newcastle, though both have had injury troubles in the past.

Even so, Calvert-Lewin’s problems with his fitness have been well-documented, though he managed 32 appearances for Everton last season where he scored seven times.
