BREAKING: Just in Birmingham City Reportedly confirm the signing of another top super star
Confirmed: Birmingham City make exciting winger fourth summer signing
Birmingham City have completed the signing of winger Emil Hansson from Dutch side Heracles. Swedish winger Hansson has agreed a three-year contract to become Blues’ fourth signing of the summer transfer window.
Blues struck a deal with Heracles earlier this week, reportedly worth around £1.5m, to bring Hansson to England after his impressive Eredivisie campaign. Before Hansson suffered a season-ending calf injury in March, he scored five goals and recorded six assists in 24 matches.
It was only Hansson’s second full season in the Dutch top flight after playing an integral role in Heracles’ promotion in 2022/23. Hansson is credited with 16 goals and 19 assists in 36 games as Heracles won the Eerste Divisie title.
The 26-year-old arrives at St Andrew’s with international pedigree having represented Sweden’s under-21s on 10 occasions, scoring four goals. Prior to playing for Sweden, Hansson represented the country of his birth Norway from under-16 to under-19 level.
Hansson is the son of ex-professional and current coach Patrik Hansson. His grandfather’s brother, Tommy Svensson, played for and managed Sweden’s senior side.
Blues have already added Ryan Allsop, Bailey Peacock-Farrell and Alfie May to their ranks during this transfer window. They came close to signing Dutch defender Mike Eerdhuijzen before the deal broke down and have been casting their recruitment net further afield.
The club are using data to inform their decisions in their quest to build a promotion-winning squad for manager Chris Davies. Hansson will bolster Davies’ forward options and is capable of playing on either flank or through the middle.
