For the Las Vegas Raiders, a new era is beginning.
The players are thrilled that Antonio Pierce is now in charge after a dismal Josh McDaniels tenure.
After Pierce took over, their offense appeared more cohesive and their defense had room for improvement.
They are still far from contending, though, largely due to their quarterback predicament.
In the offseason, they secured a big contract for Gardner Minshew, but they also have Aidan O’Connell, a second-year quarterback, on the team.
It goes without saying that this has raised a lot of concerns about who will start.
Pierce is taking his time to decide, though.
According to NBC Sports’ ProFootballTalk, the former athlete said he would decide when anything was “obvious.”
Naturally, given that the season is about to begin, that might not be the wisest or most motivating course of action.
The team’s poor quarterback position gave rise to trade rumors involving Davante Adams, but those whispers haven’t gained much traction, and Adams’ representatives have discounted the idea.
However, given how irate he has been with losing or not participating enough in the passing game, that is something to be wary of.
Right now, all that can be assumed is that Minshew has the advantage to start, but it doesn’t appear that we will find out for sure just yet.
