Bill Ward cemented his name to the pantheon of renowned drummers when he helped form Black Sabbath, the heavy metal band, drawing inspiration from drummers such as Ringo Starr, Bernard Purdie, Joe Morello, and Keef Hartley. After sharing the stage with legendary Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, and Geezer Butler, the group went on to produce hits like “The Wizard,” “Paranoid,” and “Sweet Leaf.” Even though they enjoyed enormous success over the years, it appears that Ward would give anything to perform one more time with Black Sabbath.

Although Ward battled alcoholism and health issues throughout the years, former bandmates Iommi and Osbourne said the drummer had been clean for thirty years. Nevertheless, the musician’s health problems persisted. At the age of 76, the drummer opted to provide admirers with an update via a Facebook post. “Bill Ward checking in regarding all the updates on a potential Sabbath show in England,” he wrote in his post. I’m down to play a few of everyone’s classic tunes. Playing them again would be wonderful, as I enjoyed it so much back when.

Ward said he wasn’t going to talk about his condition while thinking back on one more show with the band. “I won’t discuss my health in public, but I will say that, at 76, I’m in quite excellent health, I play music every day, and I lead a full and fulfilling life. I adore you all, forever and ever.

Not Just Bill Ward Is Hoping for One Final Black Sabbath Performance
Iommi expressed his opinions on the notion of the original Black Sabbath reuniting, despite the fact that fans adored the concept. Really, it’s a funny old thing. God, by the time we get to that age, we’ll be ninety. [Giggles] Although it’s a wonderful idea, everyone will immediately assume that it’s for financial gain. They are engaging in this activity for this reason, that reason, and another one. That wouldn’t be, though.
Iommi was tempted by the notion, but like Ward, she was also aware of the potential blowback. While it would be a wonderful thing to do, it remains to be seen whether it will actually happen. However, we’ll see. Who knows, really?
