David Gilmour has revealed another taste of his upcoming solo album: a cover of the Montgolfier Brothers’ “Between Two Points,” featuring his daughter, Romany.

On the track, Romany takes the ruminating vocals over a mournful harp, while Gilmour later delivers a guitar solo.

The Montgolfier Brothers — a British duo made up of Mark Tramner and the late Roger Quigley — released the track in 1999. In a video explainer, Gilmour said he wasn’t necessarily trying to make their rendition different from the original, rather, “I’m just going wherever I’m led by the music, to try and capture something of what the original has.”

“I’ve had that song on my playlist since it was released,” he said in a statement. “More recently I mentioned it to one or two people: I assumed that it had been a hit, but no one knew it. I asked Romany to give it a go.”

Tramner added that he was pleased with Gilmour and Romany’s take on his band’s song: “Like all the best covers, it diverges from the original but keeps the spirit,” he said. “Romany’s vocal phrasing of Roger Quigley’s words and the harp playing are both truly beautiful. David Gilmour’s distinctive guitar adds a whole new dimension.”

“Between Two Points” is the second single off Gilmour’s new album Luck and Strange, which arrives on Sept. 6. It follows “The Piper’s Call,” which he released in April. Romany also appears on the album’s bonus track, “Yes, I Have Ghosts.”

Luck and Strange is Gilmour’s first new solo album in nearly a decade, following 2015’s Rattle That Lock. The title track features keyboards by Pink Floyd’s Richard Wright, which was recorded at Gilmour’s house in 2007.

Gilmour will embark on a tour in support of the album, hitting U.S. stages for the first time in eight years. Unfortunately, you won’t be hearing any Pink Floyd hits, as he revealed in a recent interview with Uncut.
