Philippe Clement sign senior midfielder for Rangers as club chief welcomes ace in Glasgow

Philippe Clement looks set to finally land a senior signing for his Rangers midfield after Lewis Travis was spotted being given a tour of the training facilities, according to the Scottish Sun.

The paper reported via their website on 23 August that the Blackburn man was seen with director of football Creag Robertson.

The 26-year-old appears to be “on the brink of a switch” to the Light Blues despite reports in England of rival interest from Hull City.

Clement has brought in 21-year-old former Aberdeen midfielder Connor Barron already this summer but has been frustrated in his attempts to land an experienced option in addition.

Blackburn ace Lewis Travis looks set for Rangers deal

If Travis is about to sign at Ibrox it would represent a sudden turn after Blackburn released an interview with him just a couple of days earlier talking up his return from loan to reclaim the captain’s armband.

But it could also be a key development for the Light Blues ahead of the transfer deadline next week in what has proven a frustrating summer.

At one point it looked like a surprise deal for Norwich City’s Kenny McLean was racing towards a conclusion [Rangers Review, 1 July] but that ultimately ended in disappointment.

And the pursuit of Joan Jordan from Sevilla ran aground amid confusion as his camp denied being told about a possible Gers move amid a dispute with the Spanish club [ABC, 29 July].

Time is clearly running out to get anywhere close to a reasonable transfer window finished, with Clement admitting publicly he has told multiple players they can leave who are still at the club.

So if progress is being made in the final days it would be a welcome development, but fans will be reluctant to celebrate before anything is confirmed, considering how many pursuits have already fallen through.

In other Rangers news, a club are now pushing to sign a Gers attacking ace after the manager was sacked.
