Arsenal express interest in signing Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon

Arsenal now want to sign £51m star with 23 goals/assists, Edu Gaspar is a big fan

Arsenal have expressed an interest in signing one of Newcastle United’s best players, according to Daily Mail’s Craig Hope.

The Gunners have made just two outfield signings in Riccardo Calafiori and Mikel Merino during the ongoing transfer window.

Hope now reports that Arsenal have expressed an interest in Anthony Gordon, but the 23-year-old is unlikely to leave before the deadline.

The Liverpool-born star is happy at the Magpies and preliminary talks over an improved deal are planned after the transfer window closes.

Irrespective of this, Gunners sporting director Edu Gaspar remains a big fan of the Englishman. Arsenal could return for him next summer.

Arsenal identify Gordon as future forward target

Gordon joined the Magpies from Everton in January last year. He managed just one goal from 16 appearances during the second half of the 2022/23 season.

However, he was a revelation last term with 12 goals and 11 assists from 48 appearances. 21 of those goal contributions came in the Premier League from 35 games.

Gordon has established himself as the first-choice winger on the left flank for Newcastle, but he has shown in the past that he can operate from the right wing too.

His versatility could be a reason behind the Gunners’ late interest, but the Magpies are unlikely to let him go with barely time left to pursue a quality replacement.

Just like Nico Williams, Arsenal are unlikely to secure a deal for Gordon, who is valued at £51 million by Transfermarkt. He could be a forward target in future.

If he can stand out with the Magpies for a second-straight season, the Gunners could make a serious effort to sign him during next summer’s transfer window.
