‘Incredible’ – Pundit gushes over ‘quick-witted’ Aston Villa star after what he said on
John McGinn dubbed ‘incredible’ as Aston Villa star hailed for what he said on Viaplay after Scotland win v Cyprus
We’re delighted to welcome former Aston Villa full-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Villa Park…
Alan Hutton was blown away by John McGinn’s performance for Scotland night after the Aston Villa star scored in the 3-0 win away against Cyprus.
Steve Clarke’s men are now within touching distance of qualifying for the 2024 European Championships in Germany having won all five of their Group A qualifiers so far.
McGinn, 28, scored both home and away against the Cypriots as well as playing starring roles in big wins over Spain and Norway.
After the 3-0 win on Friday (8 September), McGinn was visibly over the moon when he spoke to Viaplay and Hutton was full of admiration for not only the midfielder’s performance but also his reaction to the momentous victory.
Speaking to Villa News, Hutton said: “He’s just all energy.
“I loved his interview after the game – that’s John all over. He’s very quick-witted.
John McGinn
“It’s brilliant and it looked like he was absolutely bursting to celebrate but I could tell they were just trying to take it a game at a time. But overall, he’s been fantastic.
“One of the stats I saw is that he’s only one goal behind Kenny Miller and two goals behind Ally McCoist [for Scotland], which is incredible for a midfielder.
“I know he plays higher up but he’s really gone from strength to strength with Villa and with the national team.
“He’s a real leader within and you can see that on the pitch.”
McGinn has also been in decent form for Villa this season, scoring in one of his four Premier League appearances this season and also starring in the Conference League qualifying victories over his former club Hibernian.
