Leeds United injury news as Junior Firpo mooted to ‘sneak’ onto bench in clash v Millwall

Leeds United xdefender Junior Firpo could “sneak onto the bench” against Millwall, according to journalist Beren Cross.

The left-back last played for the Whites on the final day of last season, and has been out of action since then with a knee injury.

Firpo, who joined the West Yorkshire outfit from Barcelona in 2021, has made 51 appearances for the Elland Road club.

The left-back could well be one of those hoping to sneak onto the bench at The Den,” Cross wrote for Leeds Live.

“Firpo has not been seen in Leeds colours since the final day of last season, having spent virtually all of pre-season in the treatment room. The matches with Watford or Southampton may be more realistic return dates for Firpo in the matchday squad.”

Firpo’s return will be welcomed with open arms by Leeds manager Daniel Farke, who has been forced to deal with an injury crisis during his early stages in the Whites dugout.

Firpo is one of six players currently sidelined, alongside Liam Cooper, Stuart Dallas, Patrick Bamford, Sam Byram and Dan James.

It is not the scenario that Farke would have wanted as he aims to push for promotion to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

He will have been grateful for the current international break, which will allow those with injury issues to have more time to get back to full fitness.

It remains to be seen exactly how close Firpo is to returning to first-team action, with Farke perhaps providing an update in due course as he readies his men for the trip to Millwall on Sunday (17 September).

The Whites then have further league meetings with Hull City, Watford and Southampton before September comes to a close.
