We look at the players who have worn the shirt for both clubs.

Leeds United return to league play after the international break, hosting Millwall on September 17th at The Den.

Before the game on Sunday, we take a look back in time and select a few players who have represented both clubs.

Tony Warner, goalkeeper

Played For Both: Millwall & Leeds United

Tony Warner is the goalkeeper, and after leaving Liverpool, he joined Millwall in 1999. He stayed in London for five years, making 227 appearances for the Lions before moving to Cardiff City in 2004. Warner joined Leeds United on loan from Fulham in 2006 and appeared 14 times for the Whites in all competitions during his brief stay.

Federico Bessone (DEF)
The Argentine full-back joined Leeds from Swansea City in June 2010 and made eight appearances for the club before going on loan in January and eventually leaving at the conclusion of the season. He signed a short-term contract with Millwall in February 2014 after brief stints with Swindon Town, Oldham Athletic, and Sporting Kansas City.

Charlie Cresswell, DEF

Naylor
The current LUFC defender spent last season on loan at Millwall, where he made an impact and appeared in 30 games across all competitions. During his loan, the teenager scored five goals, including a brace on his debut against Stoke City. Cresswell has made 12 first-team appearances for Leeds United so far.

Richard Naylor, DEF

The Leeds-born center back joined Millwall on loan from Ipswich Town in 2002, where he appeared three times for the Lions. After spending the majority of his career with Ipswich Town, he signed a permanent contract with Leeds United in January 2009 and was a member of the side that won promotion back to the Championship in 2010. He left the club in 2011 after 76 games and four goals.

Jermaine Wright, MID
Jermaine Wright began his career with Millwall but did not make a first-team appearance before joining Wolverhampton Wanderers in 1994. He joined Leeds ahead of the 2004/05 season and played 37 games before falling out of favour ahead of the new season and rejoining his boyhood club on loan in the summer of 2005. He appeared for the Lions 16 times and the Whites 40 times.

Jamie Shackleton, MID

Shacks

Shackleton, like Cresswell, spent last season on loan with Millwall, appearing in the bulk of their games. He made 37 appearances for the club before returning to Leeds United, where he continues to play. Shackleton has appeared in 85 games for the club and scored two goals.

Peter Sweeney, MID
The Scotsman began his career at Millwall, where he was instrumental in the club’s run to the 2004 FA Cup Final. Before joining Stoke City in 2005, he appeared in 67 games for the Lions and scored five goals. Sweeney left the Potters after two and a half seasons and relocated to Yorkshire, where he briefly played for Leeds. He joined the Whites in January 2008, but only played nine games before joining Grimsby Town on loan and later signing a permanent transfer with the Mariners.

Noel Whelan, ATT

Leeds-born Whelan rose through the ranks at Leeds United as a youngster in the 1990s, appearing in 58 appearances and scoring eight goals. The attacker left his hometown club for Coventry City in 1995, and Millwall signed him eight years later in 2003. He scored four goals in 15 games for the Lions before departing the club later in his first and only season.

ATTENTION: Steve Morison

Morison

The 6’4″ foot striker joined Yorkshire from Oldham Athletic in the summer of 2013 and had an impressive season with the club. Smith scored 13 goals in 43 appearances in all competitions before leaving for Fulham the following season. Smith was signed by Millwall in 2019 and spent the next two and a half seasons with the Lions, scoring 21 goals in 102 games.

The former Wales international had two spells with Millwall, the first coming in 2009 when he moved from Stevenage to the Lions. He gained promotion to the Championship in 2010 and scored 23 goals in his first season with the club. Morison continued his form into the following year when he netted 17 goals in all competitions. After a spell with Premier League side Norwich from 2011 to 2013, he signed for Leeds United. In his first season in Yorkshire, he scored three goals in 16 games and rejoined Millwall on loan ahead of the 2013/14 campaign. He returned to Leeds the following season and scored twice in 26 appearances. He rejoined the Lions permanently and would spend the next four seasons of his career in London. Overall, he played 343 times for Millwall and scored 92 goals.
