Wrexham’s “partners in crime” provide a welcome boost for Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.
The long-awaited return of the Red Dragons talisman has delighted one teammate as they attempt to take up where they left off during the team’s historic promotion-winning season.
Wrexham forward Ollie Palmer has voiced his excitement at the return of his “partner in crime” Paul Mullin.
Last season, the striking tandem produced plenty of firepower for the Red Dragons’ successful promotion bid and built an on-field and off-field connection. Palmer has forced to fend for himself after talisman Mullin suffered a perforated lung during the team’s summer tour in the United States.
Despite losing their main player to injury, the North Wales club has scored 20 goals in his absence. Despite the fact that they have only outscored Swindon Town in their first eight League Two games, Palmer is certain that Mullin has been missed.
Palmer, who has only scored once in seven games this season, expressed his delight at seeing his former striking partner return to play. His return will undoubtedly be a nice boost for the club, which is controlled by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, as well as Palmer.
“It’s good to have my Scouse mate back!” exclaimed the former AFC Wimbledon star to The Leader. We’ve already scored a lot of goals this season, but he’s a guy we’ll always miss, and it’s fantastic to be back with my partner in crime.”
Mullin is now being eased back to full health following his injury and has made two league appearances as he continues his comeback. His efforts throughout this time have impressed head coach Phil Parkinson, who was pleased with his forward’s performance against Grimsby.
“When Paul first came back, he was off the pace, but he had a really good week training,” he remarked, describing how the ex-Tranmere Rovers player is shaping up during this final part of his rehabilitation as he seeks match fitness.
“For him to play the way he played, alright he has not scored but he got in tremendously good areas. We got some really good balls down the side to him and he was a real threat all day.”
The Dragons’ comprehensive 3-0 victory over Grimsby saw the goals come from a trio of different sources, with Palmer among the scorers. The National League champions’ head coach saw Mullin’s latest outing as a major boost for the squad, on top of the victory.
“The Grimsby centre-backs know they have been in a real game so we are delighted with his display. He is a confident lad in front of goal, he missed a couple but that won’t affect him, it never has done before.
Parkinson added: “We are glad we have got him back and we are glad with the performance and the contribution from the whole squad which was really important.”
