Di’Shon Bernard, the new defender for Sheffield Wednesday, isn’t concerned about his contract position, despite signing a short-term contract in the summer.

Incredible!' - Manchester United youngster Di'Shon Bernard earns rave reviews on loan at Hull - Manchester Evening News
Bernard, a defender from Sheffield Wednesday, joined the club on a free transfer at the end of July. He became a free agent after leaving Manchester United, and after returning to England from international service with Jamaica, he agreed to join Hillsborough.

The 22-year-old defender spent the second half of last season with Portsmouth, but he also has Championship experience from a time with Hull City.

Bernard was only given a one-year contract on Wednesday, but he has now started three of the last four games. He’s regarded as a talent with a promising future, thus his short-term contract may have surprised some.

Bernard, according to The Star, has now stated that he is unconcerned about the deal. His sole attention is on the pitch as he attempts to re-enter the Premier League after leaving Old Trafford.

When asked about the agreement, he stated:

“To be honest, I think it’s just how it happened.”

“For me, I’m just trying to focus on this year and get better and better.” Then I’ll see what the future holds…

“This is my first year since leaving United, so I need to really push myself to get back to that level, back into the Premier League where everyone wants to play.” It’s about making sure I keep learning, working hard in training, and trying to develop so that I can hopefully return to that level.”

Bernard makes his debut for Sheffield Wednesday.
It’s been a difficult start to Wednesday’s season, but Bernard has put in some consistent performances. He did brilliantly to keep his attacking run going and to set up Anthony Musaba’s goal against Middlesbrough earlier this week.

In general, he brings a level of calm and familiarity to the Owls’ backline that hasn’t always been present. Bernard isn’t afraid to show for the ball and won’t rush with it in possession, which may have come from his experience in Manchester United’s illustrious youth system.

Time will tell how long Bernard stays at Hillsborough, but if he finds any form, it won’t be long before he’s offered an extension. Otherwise, he may begin to attract adoring eyes from other people.
