According to Hull Live, Aston Villa have a £15 million buy-back clause for Hull City summer acquisition Jaden Philogene. However, the clause only applies when the two teams are in the same league.
Hull City signed a number of new players this summer, with Philogene being the most notable.
Liam Rosenior’s side paid £5million for the 21-year-old who’s since featured twice in the Championship for his new side.
But it’s now being reported that Aston Villa inserted a buy-back clause when selling Philogene to Hull City, with Hull’s vice-chairman Tan Kesler disclosing the information.
As explained by Hull Live, Villa have ‘first refusal to acquire Philogene’ for a fixed sum of £15million should Hull City gain promotion to the Premier League, with the buy-back provision ‘only coming into effect when the two teams are in the same division’.
Hull City are presently sixth in the Championship league and have gone unbeaten since the start of the season, drawing 0-0 with Yorkshire rivals Leeds United in their most recent trip.
Philogene at Hull City
Philogene looks like a very promising signing. Hull would’ve done their due diligence before signing the player and under a very well-regarded coach in Rosenior, he could well prevail in the Championship.
And the Tigers might still be promoted. They’ve had a good start to the season and appear like clear top-six candidates, so Villa could yet make a choice on Philogene.
If the attacker can propel Hull to promotion this season, it will surely give Villa pause. For the time being, he remains a Hull player, and he has a lot to prove this season after Hull spent a lot of money to bring him in.
Hull City will play Stoke City on Sunday.
