Leeds United star will already have eyes on next week after frustratingly sitting out today – View

Leeds United centre-back Joe Rodon will be hoping for an immediate return to duty when the Whites go to Southampton next week, with Russell Martin under a lot of strain at the moment.

Daniel Farke hasn’t had the best start at Elland Road, but he’s not the one under pressure in his position among the three relegated sides.

Russell Martin of Southampton is doing his hardest to develop a visually appealing style of play, but it’s backfired on him so far, despite some promising early results.

Leeds wants to punish Southampton.
It may be early to consider a trip to Southampton just hours after the game against Watford, but Joe Rodon will have sat out with his sights set on a trip to St Mary’s in a week.

He was suspended for today’s game due to two yellow cards he received in midweek at Hull, and he must have been furious at the first after doing nothing to merit being carded.

Showing Southampton how it’s done?

Having seen how Leicester dismantled Southampton in their own half through high pressing, Leeds should be looking to do the same.

However, at the back, they will need to be wise to how Martin’s side look to turn possession over high up too – but we have Rodon and Pascal Struijk in centre-back.

So far, arguably the best and most consistent thing about Leeds’ season so far is how these two centre-backs have performed with Ethan Ampadu in front of them.

Whether it’s showing how to play out from the back in the Championship, or dealing with transitions, Rodon and Leeds will be aiming for third away win next week in similar fashion to others that have travelled to St Mary’s lately.
