Rangers legend Jim Forrest dies aged 79

Rangers legend Jim Forrest has died at age 79, the club have announced.

He was the most prolific goalscorer in the Ibrox side’s post-war history, netting 145 times in 163 matches.

Ridvan Yilmaz answers needed after yet another Rangers twist v Livingston

Ridvan Yilmaz finally showed Rangers supporters what he is capable of with his superb strike in the 4-0 Scottish League Cup win over Livingston.

The left-back powered forward from inside his own half and toe-poked the ball into the corner of the net from outside of the penalty area.

It was a goal that went a long way to showing why Rangers splashed out £5million to sign him from Besiktas in July 2022 [Sky Sports].

However, the Turkey international sustained what looked like an injury and had to be substituted off with around a quarter of the game still to play.

That sums up Yilmaz’s Ibrox career in many ways, as that injury issue may well kill off his hopes of finally enjoying a sustained run in the side.

Due to a number of setbacks, the 22-year-old has played just 17 times for the Gers in all competitions since arriving 14 months ago.

That includes only two starts this campaign, and it may well be that he has to wait for his next one depending on the severity of his latest injury.

Jim Forrest obituary: Clinical Rangers and Aberdeen striker was made a scapegoat

Chairman John Bennett and other members of Rangers’ board will no doubt be wondering exactly when they will see their investment in Yilmaz pay off. A sum of £5m is no small change, after all

As Michael Beale himself alluded to after the win against Livingston on Wednesday [27 September], it has been a frustrating period for Yilmaz.

“Hopefully, this is the start of him showing us what he really can do,” the under-fire Gers boss told BBC Sport [27 September].

Whether it is down to Beale’s own choice or the player simply being unavailable, it is easy to dismiss this as a false dawn rather than lift-off.

But if Yilmaz is going to push on and become a hit at Ibrox, then it may well be that his goal against Livi is viewed as the moment things changed.
