Georginio Rutter of Leeds United says he enjoys playing alongside Crysencio Summerville and Dan James.
Rutter was chatting to Sky Sports after his good start to the season with Leeds, where he also discussed what it’s like to play with such quick wingers.
After a tough start to his career at Leeds, Rutter is now thriving at Elland Road, with his performances improving by the week.
Under Daniel Farke, Rutter has been tasked with leading the line, a role that may be difficult against sides that want to sit deep and restrict space.
Rutter struggled to get into the game against Sheffield Wednesday, for example, because their defense five was camped on the edge of their own box.
Rutter enjoys spending time with James and Summerville.
Rutter, on the other hand, is getting used to it, having his greatest week in a white shirt to yet as Leeds won seven points against Millwall, Hull City, and Watford.
Rutter told Sky Sports ahead of Saturday’s trip to Southampton how much playing with James and Summerville can help him because of their pace.
“Summerville, James, they’re so quick!” he exclaimed. James had two assists against Watford, and it should have been three, but I squandered the opportunity. They are useful because you don’t always have a lot of space. This league can be physically demanding. Everyone expects you to return to the Championship since you were in the Premier League, but the Championship is a strong league and it’s not always that simple.”
Rutter is likely to have more room to operate this weekend against Southampton, a team that prefers to be on the front foot and dominate possession.
Hopefully, the pace of Rutter, James, and Summerville will be able to punish them on the counter-attack, as it has done for several other teams this season.
