David Moyes shares Aaron Cresswell injury update after West Ham United win v Backa Topola
David Moyes has shared an update on the injury suffered by Aaron Cresswell in the West Ham victory over Backa Topola on Thursday (21 September).
Speaking to TNT Sports after the game, the Hammers boss said the 33-year-old felt his hamstring in training, but the coaching staff didn’t feel like they needed to do anything about it ahead of the Europa League clash.
He added that the injury resurfaced during the 3-1 victory over the Serbian side, with the English left-back being replaced by Emerson at half-time.
“He felt his hamstring,” said Moyes. “He had felt it a little bit in training, but we didn’t think it was enough to warrant doing anything about it.
“But obviously it’s come on during the game. We’ll let the medical team have a look at it and find out exactly how bad it is.”
Wasn’t right
It sounds as though Cresswell wasn’t right heading into the game after Moyes admitted he had felt something in his hamstring in training.
It’s likely that the defender insisted everything was feeling fine – whether it was or not – as he will have been desperate to get out onto the pitch to play.
Although he has been on the bench, it was the first team he had featured for the Irons this season after trying to force a move away from the club over the summer.
While he was still able to move about and run to a degree before being replaced, a hamstring injury isn’t something you can take risks with and he could be out for a couple of games.
It isn’t likely to have too much of an impact because Emerson has emerged as the first-choice left-back and will look to continue impressing in that role over the coming weeks.
