A family has paid tribute to their nine-year-old ‘little warrior’ and Collingwood superfan who died after battling a rare type of cancer.
Kyron McGuire Jnr passed away at 10:30pm on Monday after battling with a highly aggressive brain cancer known as Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Gliomas (DIPG) for over two years.
‘Our family are deeply saddened to inform you that our baby boy gained his angel wings last night,’ the family wrote on social media on Tuesday.
‘He was our little warrior, who fought the fight everyday until he took his last breath.
‘Sad, hurt and heartbroken is an understatement to explain how we are feeling right now, but we do find comfort in knowing our baby is free of pain and suffering.’

Kyron attended a training session with Collingwood Football Club last year before the club faced off against Port Adelaide where he was run out onto the field with a huge smile on his face.
After the club won the match his favourite player, Adam Treloar, along with Scott Pendlebury lifted the boy onto their shoulders before Kyron joined them in the change-rooms to sing the team song.
Collingwood said on social media is was ‘deeply saddened’ about the passing and were happy to have spent time with Kyron before the end.
‘We were fortunate enough to welcome Kyron and his family to the club in 2019,’ they wrote.
‘His bravery inspired many and we’re truly grateful to have met this little legend. Rest easy buddy.’
Social media was flooded with messages of support and sadness for the passing of the boy.
His hero, Adam Treloar, wrote on Instagram on Tuesday and shared a picture of the two together.
‘My little buddy You inspired all of us. Never forgotten!’ He wrote.
Following the touching gesture from Collingwood, last year McGuire Sr was overcome with emotion as he thanked the club on 3AW.
‘I am so grateful,’ he said.
‘I’ll remember this for the rest of my life and so will he (McGuire Jr). It’s been a personal rollercoaster of emotions over the past year and a bit. I can’t explain it in words.
‘I feel just feel so grateful and privileged for Collingwood to get around my son like this.’
