David Moyes gets great news as secret Liverpool clause is leaked which puts an end to West Ham rumours
David Moyes receives good news when a secret Liverpool clause is revealed, putting an end to West Ham United rumors.
David Moyes was facing an uncertain future at West Ham not long ago.
Some Hammers fans demanded a breakup and the hiring of a more “modern and progressive” manager.
And a former Liverpool player who is making waves at Bayer Leverkusen has been prominently touted as a possible replacement, with sources claiming West Ham are considering parting ways with the Scot.
West Ham beat Liverpool to the summer appointment of German technical director Tim Steidten.
In the weeks following his arrival, a West Ham insider speculated that Steidten’s appointment could lead to the club replacing Moyes with Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso next summer.
As previously stated by Hammers News, West Ham have been highly associated with Alonso.
The contract of the former Liverpool midfield pass master expires next summer, which is also when Moyes’ current West Ham contract expires.
But he signed a two-year agreement, putting an end to speculation that he was being considered as a potential successor to Jurgen Klopp by his old club Liverpool.
According to reports in Germany, Alonso only signed the agreement so that Leverkusen might collect compensation for the ex-Reds hero if clubs like West Ham came calling.
Moyes gets good news when a secret Liverpool clause is revealed, putting an end to West Ham rumors.
According to BILD – as also reported by Get German Football News – Alonso has an agreement in his contract that he can leave if any of Liverpool, Real Madrid or Bayern Munich make a move for him next summer.
That should put any conjecture about West Ham replacing Moyes with the Spaniard to rest.
Given that Klopp has signed a new contract until 2026 and has successfully rebuilt Liverpool over the summer, a return to Anfield is equally implausible.
With Carlo Ancelotti apparently going to take over Brazil, Real Madrid appears to be the most likely destination for the man Steidten helped appoint.
This will be good news for Moyes, who is still doing marvels at West Ham.
So much so that analyst Simon Jordan has today chastised West Ham’s owners for neglecting to offer Moyes a new long-term contract by now.
