Crystal Palace boss confirms injury blow for defender ahead of Spurs – with trio still sidelined

Roy Hodgson has confirmed that Nathan Ferguson has picked up another injury – but the Crystal Palace boss was not sure how serious the setback is for the defender.

Ferguson played the full 90 minutes for Darren Powell’s U21 side on Tuesday night in their 3-1 win over Monaco at Sutton United.

The 23-year-old defender has only played eight minutes of senior football for Crystal Palace since signing from West Brom in July 2020.

He signed a new one-year deal in the summer but has been recovering from a hamstring injury with the U21 side since the end of last season.

“I was really pleased to see him play,” added Hodgson, who was in attendance for the win over Monaco in the Premier League International Cup.

“He played well. I have heard today however that he has picked up an injury during the course of the game.

“I don’t know the severity of the injury as of yet –  I can only hope that it’s not another bad one for him.

“It was good to see him back and witness his performance.”

Our paper reported earlier today that Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze will be missing tomorrow’s Premier League clash against Spurs.

And the former England boss confirmed in his pre-match press conference that both will be absent for the fixture.

“We don’t have so many now who are really out of the question,” Hodgson said.

“Of course, we still don’t have [Dean] Henderson, the goalkeeper, and we still have Ebere Eze and Michael Olise who are out.

“It’s still quite big names are out. Add to that James Tomkins, who picked up a calf strain.

“Otherwise we have everybody back now and ready to play, so suddenly, the situation with regards to selecting the starting 11 and selecting the bench is quite a different proposition than it was a few weeks ago.”
