Crystal Palace youngster Killian Phillips has been outstanding during his loan spell at Wycombe Wanderers, and has now been praised following his first goal for the club.

The 21-year-old joined the League One side in the summer, and has already made 17 first-team appearances, and scored the opening goal in his side’s FA Cup victory away at Bradford.

The centre-back has featured regularly for his loan club, and has now earned praise from his manager Matt Bloomfield following his goal, who claimed that goals were the only thing he was lacking in his strong run of performances.

Bloomfield praises Killian Phillips

Speaking to Bucks Free Press, Bloomfield praised the quality of Phillips, and claimed that the Palace starlet also helps get the best out of his teammates with his performances.

“Killian was due a goal,” he stated.

“His performance levels have been very good but all he was missing was a goal. He finally got that and nearly got another near the end.

“Killian puts so much effort and time into improving his game, and we can see that.

“He’s quality in the way we take us forward, the way he defends, how he presses…he’s a real enabler in our team so fair play to him.”

Can Killian Phillips make it at Crystal Palace?

It may be too early to say how his loan will affect his future, but Phillips is certainly on the right path.

At 1.9m tall, he could eventually slot straight into the Palace side and add physicality to the back line, and he is gaining some vital experience in the lower leagues.

He has time on his side, as 21 is still remarkably young for a defender. If he can continue on his trajectory and keep playing regularly, he may have the potential to develop into a Palace first-teamer.

Phillips is yet to appear for the Palace senior side, and given that there are a number of strong options at the back for Roy Hodgson, he may have to wait a while before being given a chance, but if he continues to impress on loan then a spot may open up for the Irishman in the future.
