Amadou Onana agent shares fitness update after Everton substitution v Crystal Palace

The Belgian international was replaced at half-time of Everton’s 3-2 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday (11 November) with Idrissa Gana Gueye ultimately scoring the winner for the Toffees in the closing stages.

Some had feared that the 22-year-old had picked up an injury as he was a doubt heading into the match, but his agent has confirmed that the decision to withdraw him at halftime was nothing more than a precaution as he returned to fitness.

Whenever a player is substituted at half-time, supporters usually assume the worst that they have picked up an injury, especially when the player is having a good game as Onana did at Selhurst Park on Saturday, so it is a relief t hear the midfielder is fit still.

The Belgian was at his accurate best on the ball against Palace, completing 100 per cent of his 20 attempted passes in the first half, including two into the final third, but did appear slightly less composed out of possession as he only won one of the three duels that he contested.

Onana has been included in Belgium’s squad for the November international break, where the Red Devils will face Serbia and Azerbaijan in Euro 2024 qualifying matches. However, the Everton star will only be able to play the second game as he has to serve a one-game suspension having been sent off against Austria in October [Fotmob].

While that will be gutting for the midfielder, it will give him an extra few days to recover before he is called into action for his national team. Hopefully, that will reduce his chance of picking up an injury during the international break so he can return to Goodison fit and ready for the Premier League.
