West Ham defender Thlo Kehreri makes 1-0 Manchester United win admission and he must watch the tape back urgently

Thilo Kehrer played during West Ham United’s 1-0 win over Manchester United right at the end of last season, and he has admitted that it was his best performance yet for the club.

West Ham signed Thilo Kehrer from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2022, for a fee believed to be worth around £13 million.

At the time, it seemed like Hammers boss David Moyes had secured a real coup, given the 27-year-old’s reputation within the game.

However, things haven’t really worked out for Kehrer at the London Stadium, and he has already been linked with a move back to his homeland, with Bayern Munich allegedly interested in signing him.

The 27-capped Germany international has made far too many errors when playing for West Ham – ones that have proved to be extremely costly for us.

His concentration levels and positional awareness have been akin to what you would see in schoolboy football at times. However, there is definitely a player in there somewhere.

You don’t play for PSG and earn nearly 30 caps for Germany if you’re not a good player. And I think he needs to remind himself of the level that we all know he’s capable of…

West Ham defender Thilo Kehrer needs to play back the tape

The former PSG man has been speaking about what he believes was his best game in a Hammers shirt.

Kehrer explained what made his performance against Manchester United so good, as quoted by WHUFC.com:

“My best performance, I would say, was the home game against Manchester United near the end of last season. It was a very special game for me; a very emotional one and I felt like I played really well that day. I was playing right-back which I think is a bit self-explanatory in terms of what was required of me. As a defender, you always want to keep the clean-sheet, not concede any goals, and keep the opposition attackers out with as much passion and heart as we can. I feel like I did that against Manchester United, and the whole team did that too.”

Kehrer went on to say…

“When those 1v1 situations occur against Manchester United, you have players like Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes, Antony and Jadon Sancho coming at you. They are top-class players so you need to be at your best and perform all your defensive jobs at the top level. I think that’s something we did really well. I remember the energy I brought on the pitch. I think I gave some confidence to my teammates with my performance, and I brought security on my defensive side. I think I made good decisions in the right moments too, which was the most important thing. So much of football is about the decision making.”

Those final three lines sum it up for me. The energy, defensive security and good decision making is exactly what Kehrer brings when he’s on top form.

He was aggressive and 100% focused for the entire 90 minutes at the London Stadium that day.

The trouble is that the German doesn’t showcase those things on a consistent enough basis, and he is often found out by opposing attackers.

Thilo Kehrer needs to sit down and watch a recording of the West Ham United vs Manchester United game from last season.

Sometimes, we all need a reminder of just how much we have to offer, whether that be in society in general or on the football pitch.

The 27-year-old’s performance against Manchester United last term was evidence that he has what it takes to make it in the Premier League. And he can’t lose sight of that fact.
