Marc Guehi wowed by how Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson is behind the scenes

Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi is performing very well, and he has now praised manager Roy Hodgson for his role in his development.

Hodgson has come under some criticism since coming out of retirement to return to Palace last season, but his vast experience in the game still impresses players who appear under him now.

Guehi has been called up to the England squad following his fine run of form, and he has also been linked with big-money moves away, whilst Palace are also keen on tying him down to a new contract.

The defender has now revealed that Hodgson’s past experience causes some amazement amongst the Crystal Palace squad.

Guehi wowed by Roy Hodgson

Speaking to The Standard, Guehi admitted that Hodgson occasionally says something which leaves him in awe when talking about his past career.

“Some of the gems he says every single day, you just have to take a step back sometimes and think, ‘Did he just say that?’” Guehi stated.

“They definitely help you a lot with games coming up with Palace and coming away with the national team.

“I think he mentioned something about Inter Milan, back in the day, and he was talking about Roberto Carlos. Even to think he has coached Roberto Carlos. You are sat in the meeting and you are like, ’Honestly, wow!’. You are taken aback.

“He has done so much in the game, so when he talks, you listen. He tells me to be myself, to express myself and to enjoy and keep doing what I am doing for my club.

“As long as the gaffer is still involved in football, I think he will always have an impact. Him and his staff have done a fantastic job. They are really ambitious so just doing a good job isn’t enough for them, they want to push on and see how far they can take the team.”

Hodgson helping Marc Guehi’s development

Guehi has come on leaps and bounds since joining Palace, and his performances since Hodgson have joined have earned him international recognition.

His partnership with Joachim Andersen has blossomed, with Palace keeping the joint-most clean sheets in the Premier League this season, and the club will hope to keep hold of both players as clubs circle around them.

Hodgson has worked with many great defenders in the past, and whilst Palace’s attacking prowess has been questioned this season, there is a solid base at the back to build upon.
