Demarai Gray transfer update emerges as Everton sign Jack Harrison on loan from Leeds United, Fulham chasing

Demarai Gray is “likely” to be sold by Everton now that Jack Harrison has been signed on loan, according to The Telegraph.

The newspaper reported via their website Sunday (13 August) that the Leeds United winger, 26, undergoing his medical the same day, “will arrive on Merseyside on loan”, and current Toffees wide man Gray, 27, is therefore expected to leave.

The Jamaica international has been chased by the likes of Fulham, Crystal Palace and Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal so far this summer.

Everton

Everton are thought to have verbally agreed to deal with Fulham for Gray, while the former Leicester City has apparently agreed personal terms with Marco Silva’s side.

Extensive further drama has arisen on the Harrison move, with Fabrizio Romano reporting after the Telegraph report that Aston Villa were hijacking the deal and the winger had chosen Unai Emery’s offer after a direct call from the Spaniard.

David Ornstein of The Athletic then reported that despite the Villa input the Toffees had in fact got the deal done, so assuming he does arrive from Leeds the Gray exit should be on the cards.

One in one out

It is obviously fair to question the wisdom right now of letting a serviceable attacking option leave while bringing in one that isn’t currently fit to contribute.

But with Gray third choice under Sean Dyche last season and entering the final year of his contract he looks like he wants to leave for a new challenge.

If Everton can bring in some valuable cash for him it could prove vital in the final weeks of the transfer window while the the loan additions of Harrison and Arnaut Danjuma are comparatively cheap moves for now.

Sean Dyche has now landed four signings, three of which have come in attacking areas, with full-back Ashley Young and teenage striker Youssef Chermiti also brought in.

He could definitely still do with more, particularly up top where Dominic Calvert-Lewin was again absent for the 1-0 opening day defeat to Fulham on Saturday (12 August).

Gray has appeared to be on his way for a few weeks, presumably pending the Everton boss getting further new arrivals so it looks like the impediment to his exit has now been lifted.

In other Everton news, the Toffees have agreed terms with another target whose relationship is “completely broken” at hit current club.
